Every little letter
By Deborah Underwood
Illustrated by Joy Hwang Ruiz
This is a well done children’s book to help with learning letters, and learning to break down walls, so to speak. It begins with “Once upon a time, there was a city of letters surrounded by walls…” Each letter lived behind the same walls. Conversations were very boring with nothing but the letter H everywhere you looked. One day lower case h became curious and peeked through a hole in the wall. What she found was not scary at all… it was a little i...they both reached through the wall to hold hands, and together made something extraordinary!! Hi!!
Big H saw what happened and sealed the wall back up. They were comfortable and somewhat happy in their own little world behind the wall, and did not want to disrupt things. The small h missed her new friend, so she came up with a plan. She sent letters by paper airplanes to her new friend, but one flew astray to the letter o. The idea spread to the other letters, and the x’s tic tac toe game became much more exciting, and the y’s finally got some answers to their questions! When the big letters found out, they were in trouble again! UH-OH!! Little h had a new idea… climb up and meet on top of the walls. Night fell and day dawned t o g e t h e r !
The big letters were still afraid but one reached out and soon another and another until brick by brick the walls came down. Many new words were formed from this new meeting up of letters. Words like courage, kindness, cooperate, help and give, but the most important word of all was LOVE!!
The message and illustrations in this book are beautifully done! I definitely recommend it for your little ones!
