Sharp Objects is a HBO miniseries based off of Gillian Flynn's debut novel of the same title. The story follows a troubled newspaper journalist who must return to her hometown to report on a series of brutal murders. The miniseries aired starting in July of 2018 and stars Amy Adams, Patricia Clarkson, and Chris Messina and has 8 episodes running approximately an hour each. The series received 8 nominations at the 71st Emmy Awards, including one for Outstanding Limited Series. The show was also filmed in the not so far away Barnesville, GA; so once you finish the series you can take a road trip and find some of the locations!
You find yourself enthralled in what is happening in this idyllic small town of Wind Gap Missouri. The characters are intriguing and quirky and stuck in an era of small town life that is disappearing. The struggle between Camille Preaker ( Amy Adams) and her mother Adora will end in a very climactic way. I became so engrossed in the storytelling I watched the whole series in a day! The ending is shocking and one I didn't see coming, and I pride myself on being a good guesser of what is coming next! Â
The series aired on HBO so their is strong language, intense scenes involving crime and murder, and some sexual encounters so parents be wary of watching with kids in the room.
On the last episode make sure you watch for a secret scene that plays halfway through credits that will leave you speechless! You may even want to rewind this scene and slow it down to see details that you will be shocked by! This is a very intense thriller with a great story at its core! You will find yourself craving the next episode and to know what happens next making this series an excellent summer binge watch!
