Big Little Lies
Review of HBO Series on DVD
Based on the bestselling 2014 novel of the same title by Liane Moriarty, Big Little Lies is an adult drama that exposes the contradictions between the façade of “perfect” lives, marriages, friendships, and families, and the dark reality which lies beneath it. The series came across to me as a reasonably compassionate view of some societal issues such as power struggles, infidelity, spousal abuse, and resulting children’s issues. (The kids in the series are quite adorable, as well as accomplished actors.) The story line is not without humor, as well as breathtaking views of the Monterrey, CA shoreline and upscale homes of the privileged.
If you watch it, you will be pulled into the gripping story, starring Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, among others. I recommend that you “check it out” at the W. H. Stanton Memorial Library. (Not for kids.)
